University of Dunaújváros

Elektro-Kamleithner Kft. installed a comprehensive building automation system in nine buildings of the University of Dunaújváros, which has significantly contributed to energy efficiency and cost reduction.

The University of Dunaújváros project is a project of the KNX Awards 2024 - Smart Building Award - Europe, which recognizes the Elektro-Kamleithner Kft. Electro-Kamler-Klechner-Klechner-Klechner-Klechner's work in the field of smart building solutions and the outstanding success of the project.

Systems and equipment installed

On the university campus, 770 radiators, 600 lighting circuits and 47 air conditioners were controlled. 70 occupancy sensors control the lighting in corridors and classrooms. The system was designed using a wide range of manufacturers and standard communication procedures, which contributed to the success of the project. Among the devices installed are 755 Theben Cheops, 651 Theben JU1 and SU1, 40 Micropelt Enocean, 5 Weizierl Enocean, 70 Theben HTS, 28 Zennio KES and Netx 20 000 data points. The communication was implemented through the university's IT network, which provides the data transfer between buildings.

Challenges and solutions

The rise in energy prices in recent years has made it necessary to modernise uncontrolled heating systems. During the project, 95% of the installations use KNX TP communication and where aesthetic needs required, 40 radiators were fitted with wireless (Enocean + KNX Enocean GW) thermostats. Lighting control has been implemented using actuators and push-buttons in place of conventional switches. KNX electrical meters measure the consumption at the main feed-in point of the educational buildings and per level in the dormitories.

Future developments

Future development plans for the project include the integration of the entire air handling system of a completely rebuilt building and the expansion of the current 20 000 data points visualisation to up to 30 000 data points. Further energy saving improvements include the integration of heat meters, water meters and DHW circulation controls for all heat centres.

In summary, the University of Dunaújváros project is an excellent example of smart building solutions that result in efficient energy use and cost reduction. The systems installed by Elektro-Kamleithner Ltd. not only serve current needs, but also ensure future expansion possibilities.
