Energy modernisation of hotel buildings with building automation solutions

Rising energy prices are posing new challenges for the hotel industry, which is weathering the downturn in tourism. The installation of energy-efficient building automation is no longer a luxury investment for the hotel industry, but a prerequisite for long-term sustainable operation.

It is becoming increasingly important that hotels can be operated with optimal energy consumption at all times. Hotel buildings are building types that can be well automated, because the success of energy efficiency (MSZ EN 15232 ) also depends on the extent to which energy consumption can be adapted to the actual presence of guests.

One means of doing this is to control the lighting, heating and cooling for guests szobafoglaltsága alapján működik.

Building automation solutions, such as occupancy-dependent thermostats, window opening detection, virtual card holders, or building automation that can be integrated with hotel software, help to improve energy efficiency.

Smart features

One of the many problems in hotels is that room cards left in the entrance card holders make it impossible to determine exactly whether someone is in the room. The solution is the virtual card holder product, an intelligent occupancy detection logic module that uses a combination of presence and opening sensors, as well as other parameters, to determine whether a room is empty or occupied based on a special algorithm and adjusts the lighting and temperature accordingly.

The energy demand of the cooling and heating system accounts for a significant share of the energy consumption of buildings. If a significant share of this energy is saved, it will be reflected in measurable savings in operating costs. In order to determine the share of the total energy consumption accounted for by the various functions - or, in other words, the areas to be optimised - it is necessary to measure the consumption of each of these areas (gas, water, electricity) and to collect, process and evaluate the measured data.

In hotels, fan-coil cooling and heating systems are used because they are a fast-response device, with consumption easily matched to actual presence. If a hotel room is designed with a much slower heating floor, this potential for automation cannot be fully exploited. This example shows that automation alone is not a panacea. The whole building must be designed with energy efficiency in mind.

An additional option is, for example, that the stored hot water (HMW) temperature can be reduced within a certain range depending on the occupancy of the room. This solution requires integration of the hotel management software (PMS) and the building automation.

Maximum energy efficiency

The KNX building automation system marketed by Elektro-Kamleithner Ltd. is able to meet the highest building automation requirements set by the MSZ EN 15232 standard describing the energy performance of buildings. The KNX system can be used to meet the increasing number of requirements related to the energy consumption of buildings.

Our smart hotel solutions are the key to modern, energy-efficient hotels that deliver maximum guest experience.
