Recent studies show that different smart home solutions are becoming increasingly popular. Their efficient contribution to climate protection and renewable energy use is driving this demand. According to a survey of electrical professionals conducted by the German ZVEH*, KNX is the leading smart home technology for detached houses, with a market share of 53%, and is expected to grow clearly in the coming years. The results of the new GfK market research also support this market assessment, as they confirm that compared to 2018, KNX has grown by more than 14% in terms of unit sales and sales value compared to last year.

Strong growth is forecast in the US, China and Europe

This is supported by the forecasts of various market research companies for the most important markets: while the US, the largest smart home market, is expected to more than double its market volume to €37 billion by 2023, China, the second largest market, is expected to grow by 20% annually. Europe is also catching up, up 120%. Countries such as Germany, the UK and France are leading the way, followed by Italy and Spain. The biggest trends worldwide include smart home, smart mobility, and building energy management and cooling, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. All these areas can be controlled by KNX. According to GfK market research, the growth of KNX will be even stronger here, with annual growth of more than 15% in HVAC and switchgear.

New opportunities for system integrators

The market for smart home solutions is undergoing significant change. Until now, the market has been dominated by low-threshold applications such as voice control systems, but today there is a growing demand for more sophisticated building automation solutions in residential buildings. According to the ZVEH survey, 42.2% of experts are convinced that this development will create new opportunities for system integrators, while the market will continue to grow. For KNX, the survey predicts further growth in detached houses over the next few years.
